For more details on how to use our web apps, see Usage Notes.
The app displays the current time in 8 formats. We display our time digitally with hh:mm:ss. The clock face uses 3 hands to display these quantities. We’ll retain these practices, but experiment with different divisions of time, where we'll use
"hunits" for hour-like units,
"munits" for minute-like units, and
"sunits" for second-like units.
I've chosen 4 options for breaking the day into units, with an eye towards finding a practical and dozenal friendly approach.
Traditional clock
TGM clock
DGW clock
6 dozen clock
The clock face images below all display ten minutes after ten, and fifteen s when measured with our traditional system, (decimal 10:10:15). All numbers are represented in dozenal, except the 1.a. option.
10:10:15
1.a. The traditional clock. dec (decimal), 24 hunits/day, 60 munits/hunits, and 60 sunits/munits, sunits/day = 86,400
0A:0A:13
1.b. The traditional clock displayed in dozenal. doz (dozenal), 20 hunits/day, 50 munits/hunits, and 50 sunits/munits, sunits/day = 42,000.
0A:20:72
2.a. Tom Pendelton's TGM time system. The sunit = 0;21 s = approx 1/6 s. doz, 20 hunits/day, 100 munitshunits, and 100 sunits/munits, sunits/day = 200,000.
0A:20:13
2.b. TGM, except the sunit = 1 s. doz, 20 hunits/day, 100 munits/humits, and 21 sunits/munits, sunits/day = 42,000.
5:10:37
3.a. John Volan's DGW time system, The sunit = 0;42 s = approx 1/3 s. doz, 10 hunits/day, 100 munits/hunits, and 100 sunits/munits, sunits/day = 100,000.
5:10:13
3.b. DGW, except the sunit = 1 s. doz, 10 hunits/day, 100 munits/hunits, and 42 sunits/munits, sunits/day = 42,000.
0A:10:1A
4.a. The 6 dozen clock. The sunit = 0;84 s = approx 2/3 s. doz, 20 hunits/day, 60 munits/hunits, and 60 sunits/munits, sunits/day = 60,000.
0A:10:13
4.b. The 6 dozen clock, except the sunit = 1 s. doz, 20 hunits/day, 60 munitshunits, and 42 sunits/munits, sunits/day = 42,000.
Clock faces for options 3.a and 3.b DGW clocks display the full day on a single clock face. The clock face with hunits between 9 and 3 (traditionally, 6 pm and 6 am) is gray to indicate the evening. All other clock faces, display half the day (either morning or evening). With evening (traditionally 6 pm to 6 am), the display is gray.
The above web app link allows you to see the clock options real time, both digitally and as a clock face, Seeing them in action allows an appreciation of their advantages and disadvantages. Feel free to pick your favorite.
For additional details on these options, see The Mighty Dozen, my paper on the dozenal system. Section 6 discusses time keeping.
Apr 2023, ver 1.0. Original version
May 2023, ver 1.1. Added option 4.a. Fixed Sunits truncating error. Munits hand moves full interval, rather than incrementally with sunits value. Digital time font size increased and bold.
Jul 2023, ver 1.2. Added title bar with app name, app home page link, and what app is about. Improved header for each clock. Dozenal ten = T, elv = E.
